Haven Conference – Behind the Scenes

Hey friends!  Miss you… how are you?  This past weekend, I traveled to Atlanta, GA for a blogging conference called Haven.  The conference was primarily for craft/home interior/DIY bloggers and I was a first time attendee.  I traveled with my friend Abby from ‘Just a Girl and her Blog’ and thank God I wasn’t alone; we had quite the adventure!  First, we took a plane to Atlanta, then we got on the MARTA and a little ways into our trip, wouldn’t you know, it stopped.  Abby and I squinted our eyebrows at each other and a woman nearby immediately got off.  Uh oh.  We questioned what we should do but before we could make a decision, it started to move again.

And then it stopped.  Again.

That’s when all of the passengers were told to get off; the train in front of us derailed.  Not. Kidding.  We got off, luggage in hand, walked up the steps and for some reason, I was envisioning the streets to be somewhat like NYC.  Full of life and taxis and we’d all be fine.  Well, there was nothing around.  No taxis.  No life.  And that’s when we were told to get on a bus to our destination.

Hours later, we arrived (too late) to Haven’s opening event.  We hopped on a shuttle with a group of other bloggers and we all went to a nearby restaurant.  You know, it’s always interesting when you get a group of women together.  You never know what to expect but the table you see below?  They were exceptional.  An awesome array of talented bloggers, incredible mothers and delightful women…  I was in good company and it was easy to get along with everyone!

I spent the rest of the weekend meeting with more bloggers and exciting companies such as Home Depot, Southern Living Plant Collection, Modern Masters Paint, Scout & Nimble, Ballard Designs, to name a few.  It was overwhelming but amazing to discuss the opportunity to work with each of them!  My ideas were flowing!  I even met Chip Wade from HGTV who was a key-note speaker one morning!

The ‘cheeser’ in me was a little star struck and maybe it showed a little too much… No?

I toned it down a bit for take 2.

I definitely had a memorable weekend!

Over the course of a few days, I was also able to take sessions/classes about blogging.  I took them on Building Relationships with Brands, Home Decor, How to Achieve High End DIY, Making Money, Outdoor Inspiration, Interior Design… I learned so much; my brain was on overload… full of thoughts and ideas!

We ended the weekend attending a fantastic ‘Beach Party’ hosted by Ryobi Power Tools and boy do they know how to throw a party!  Delicious food, amazing dessert bar, plenty of drinks, an awesome DJ, giveaways and a really cool photo opportunity with beachy props to add to the fun!

and a group of awesome bloggers who I spent time with as well!  (I’ll be sure to post their links as soon as I sort through a gazillion business cards to find theirs! <– Come back soon; they are all worth following!)

I’m really thankful that I got this opportunity.  I was definitely out of my comfort zone at times but in order to grow, we have to jump outside of our norm every once in a while!

The biggest lesson learned this weekend?  When you are a SAHM and you leave your family for a few days, everyone appreciates you a little more when you return home!  I definitely know my #1 role and was so happy to be reunited with my hubby and my little monkeys too!

Until next time…
